Overview of Drug Policy Issues

Illegal drug use in the U.S. became prevalent in the late 1960's and it continues today. There has been recent increased use in Europe.

The U.S. government has spent considerable resources attempting to halt the flow of illegal drugs into the country and in imprisoning sellers and users of illegal drugs without success in reducing their usage.

In the U.S. there has been a recent trend toward decriminalizing and even legalizing marijuana use.
