Overview of Economic Inequality

Beginning in the 1980's, the United States economy has become increasingly unequal between high and low income earners. No other developed country has a level of inequality that compares with the United States.

The level of income inequality has coincided with a significant reduction in labor union membership and influence.

The federal minimum wage in real dollars is less than the poverty level but there has been partisan resistance to an increase.
